The poets who are my favorites and, therefore my greatest... More > influences, are Emily Dickinson, Robert Graves and William Butler Yeats. I like poetry that leads me to tread into the mystical. Though I have never tried to sit down and write a poem a day, or write in classic forms such as the sonnet, sometimes a mental state of exhilaration would overtake me and I would experience a feeling of “fullness” or pressure. Soon a line of poetry would appear in my mind, like an air bubble popping up to the surface of a pond, and I would grab a pen and paper. As soon as I wrote that down the rest of the poem would be drawn out line by line. Two of those poems were published and I won honorable mention in the adult division of the North Carolina Poetry Society's annual contest. As an adult I bought a computer and recorded them all. This little book is the result of that.< Less
