Normal approximation to the binomial distribution By Homework Help Classof1
eBook (PDF): $5.99
"According to a hospital administrator, historical records over the past 10 years have shown that 20% of the major surgery patients are dissatisfied with after-surgery care in the hospital. A... More > scientific poll based on 400 hospital patients has just been conducted. What is the probability that less than 64 patients will not be satisfied with the after-surgery care? "< Less
Time Travel: An Approximate Mathematical Solution By Richard Lighthouse
eBook (PDF): $0.00
This short technical note describes an approximate mathematical solution for Time Travel involving relativity and very brief time intervals. Limitations of the solution are discussed including... More > possible error sources. Assumptions are made for small changes in the speed of light and for the Lighthouse Frequency, which has been described in previous papers. This paper will only be meaningful to those with a background in calculus, physics, and/or engineering. Each reader must comprehend that our universe blinks off and on, approximately 1 trillion times every second. For those unconvinced that our universe is blinking, please see the related eBook, "The First Periodic Table for Elementary Particles," which provides compelling mathematical evidence. --- For more than 2 years, this author has been stalked, harassed, and threatened by agents from the CIA, FBI, and NSA - because of these ebooks. It is truly sad and pathetic, these agencies have become criminal organizations.< Less
Local Approximation of the Holstein Polaron Problem By Jean-Marc ROBIN
Paperback: $33.61
Prints in 3-5 business days
We review the Dynamical Mean Field Theory of the Holstein Polaron Problem in order to compute the small polaron Green's functions. The Renormalized Perturbation Expansion (RPE) play a central role... More > and allows to compute all the local and non local Green's functions for the electron and the small polaron, for finite or infinite size systems, with periodic or non periodic boundary conditions. We introduce a restricted basis for the phonons to study the decoupling scheme of the Green's functions in a Local Approximation via exact diagonalizations. As a bonus, we furnish all the C/C++ programs built step by step, from a pedagogical point of view.< Less

Approximation and Solution Schemes for Stochastic Dynamic Optimization Problems By Lisa A. Korf
Paperback: $14.99
Prints in 3-5 business days
Optimization and control problems often need to be formulated in a way that takes the uncertainty of the future into account in order to accurately reflect a "good" decision that can stand... More > up to a variety of possible future outcomes. One way of including uncertainty in such problems treats the uncertain parameters as a random vector with an underlying probability distribution. Doing this creates a stochastic programming model which is inherently infinite dimensional, or at best extremely large, in particular when many time stages are present. In order to solve such problems, a good approximation framework is needed that encompasses various approaches such as sampling and analytical methods for various problem classes. Complementing this should be a development of solution procedures that exploit a problem's structure, for example taking advantage of convexity and decomposability wherever possible. This dissertation addresses these key issues in four parts.< Less

Hidden Scents: The Language of Smell in the Age of Approximation By Allen Barkkume
Paperback: $11.98
Prints in 3-5 business days
Hidden Scents will vaporize you into an aromatic molecule, tickling the brain-fingers in your nose. A cacophony of receptor neurons activating and inhibiting, you become a recognized pattern and... More > burst towards the limbic superhighway of the primitive organism. You are an emotion, a virtual body-state stored in memory, coming to life once again in the act of perception. In a breath, you are exhaled, washed away into the lexicographical maelstrom of the Language of Smell. Hidden Scents explores our consensual reality, and reveals its inherent ambiguity. On the surface, however, it is a book about the olfactive system, not only of the human but of human culture. In the concluding series of essays, olfaction is used as a paradigm for navigating issues on the threshold of public discourse: space and dimensionality, artificial intelligence, quantum theory, and the future of the internet. Be warned - you might never smell the same again.< Less
