The relationship between vitamin C and health is controversial. Double Nobel Prize winner, Linus Pauling, argued that ascorbate could prevent or cure heart disease, stroke, cancer and infections.... More > Conventional experts disagreed, disparaging supplements in favour of fruits and vegetables. This book presents a new model, describing the action of vitamin C in health and disease. It demonstrates conclusively that the establishment has misinterpreted the evidence, potentially resulting in epidemic levels of avoidable disease. The dynamic flow model explains the current results and points the way for future experiments. Vitamin C supplementation could eradicate many diseases. In pharmacological doses, it could cure the major killers of the industrialised world. Failure to test these ideas may condemn countless people to chronic illness and premature death.< Less

Effect of Water Stress on Nutrient Uptake, Osmotic Adjustment and Root Development in Different Tomato Cultivars By Kamrun Nahar
Paperback: $14.27

Field and pot experiments on loam and silty clay loam soil respectively in Asia and nutrient solution culture experiment in Europe were carried out to study the effect of water stress on different... More > varieties of tomato plants. In field experiment, yield was reduced due to stress but no significant influence was observed. Water stresses also showed insignificant effect on dry matter production of plants. In pot experiment yield and dry matter production were adversely affected by water stress. Relative water content of leaves, moisture percentage, water use efficiency, growth, yield, nutrient contents, glucose, sucrose, fructose, malic acid, ascorbic acid, citric acid, proline, protein contents and root development of these plants were investigated.Significant increase in glucose, fructose and sucrose in fruits and proline contents in leaves showed the conspicuous tendency of tomato plants to adjust osmotically against water stress.< Less
