This is an exploratory study that examines how Hispanic/Latino college students who have persisted in college until junior or senior year have managed to balance the demands of their college work and... More > culture. It analyzes how those students function biculturally while attending a predominantly non-Hispanic institution of higher education. The study identifies barriers, difficulties and problems that Hispanic/Latino college students had to overcome in order to continue their college education and the methods or coping mechanisms they used to overcome these difficulties. The study is based on the results of 30 interviews with Hispanic/Latino junior or seniors attending a major Midwestern university. The study indicates that the variables of academic integration and social integration used in Tinto's integration model are true indicators of success in college.
