Richmond was formed in 1779 from part of Anson County. It will remain intact with these original boundaries until 1899, when Scotland County is formed from part of its eastern side. Anson was formed... More > from the western part of Bladen County in 1750, and then will be divided up a number of times to form other counties, Rowan (1753), Mecklenburg (1762), Montgomery (1779), Richmond (1779), and Union (1842). Richmond County Road Records (1778-1826) contain some older records, yet, past the 18th century, the records become more prolific, still providing some insight to early routes. The bridge records for this county were separated and were preserved from 1790 until 1897. Also included is a box of ferry (1784 – 1857) and mill records (1790-1875), which are also included in the first volume. This is the third and final volume, to finalize transcribing Richmond’s three-box (roads) collection of records. This box includes undated records – which could fill in missing documents in the prior two volumes.< Less

Hyde was formed in 1705 from Bath. Hyde was reduced in size to form Dare County (along with Currituck and Terrell) in 1870. Otherwise, Hyde retains the same boundary from its formation. Despite the... More > age, the older records were not preserved. An interesting attribute for this county, is the lack of roads, due to swamps, bays, and a very large lake. It is amazing how few roads are in this county. Despite this, Hyde county has a moderate size collection spanning 4-fibred boxes. The first box was transcribed into Volume 1 providing the oldest records Box 2 (1742-1859), as well as a nice group of bridge records Box 6 (Bridge records 1748-1928). This is the second volume which includes Box 3 (1860-1909). Due to the quantity of records – and that the last two boxes of modern records will fit into another standalone volume – this book contains one box of records. Volume 3, containing the modern records and undated (one folder), will finalize this collection with the last two (smaller content) boxes.< Less

Hero Tales from American History (Illustrated) By Henry Cabot Lodge & Theodore Roosevelt
eBook (ePub): $1.99
“Daniel Boone will always occupy a unique place in our history as the archetype of the hunter and wilderness wanderer. He was a true pioneer, and stood at the head of that class of... More > Indian-fighters, game-hunters, forest-fellers, and backwoods farmers who, generation after generation, pushed westward the border of civilization from the Alleghanies to the Pacific. As he himself said, he was "an instrument ordained of God to settle the wilderness." Born in Pennsylvania, he drifted south into western North Carolina, and settled on what was then the extreme frontier. There he married, built a log cabin, and hunted, chopped trees, and tilled the ground like any other frontiersman. The Alleghany Mountains still marked a boundary beyond which the settlers dared not go; for west of them lay immense reaches of frowning forest, uninhabited save by bands of warlike Indians. Occasionally some venturesome hunter or trapper penetrated this immense wilderness, and returned with strange stories of what he had seen and done.”< Less
