Brooks is trying to get home for dinner. But will he make it across the street first?
Brooks and Bim is an original and well-bred tale for children aged 5 and up. It is a fresh allegory that employs... More > simple, but complex vocabulary, common figures of speech, and a theme that shows affectivity and personal character.
Even though children must learn how to read, they must also be taught how to identify and signify verbal meaning by reading on levels that can best be described as the explicit, the implicit, and the synthetic.
In the end, reading well or being fully literate is a matter of children (5 and up) becoming aware of and having practice at mining words and groups of words for information, meaning, and even questions.
Brooks and Bim is an innovative, yet classic primer whose value lies in entertaining and educating young children to become savvy readers.< Less
Brook is probably a lot like you. He goes to school. He plays with his friends. And sometimes, he gets into trouble. The only difference is, Brook is a fish.
Dive in to Brook's school and read... More > his story. Then talk with a parent about what you could do if you ever found yourself in the same trouble.
Brook's stories are written especially for first graders to read on their own. The story has about 300 words, most of which follow English grammar rules, making it easier for beginning readers to sound them out. Many words in the story were specifically chosen because they have common first grade consonant blend sounds, reinforcing what the kids are learning in school. Most of the sentences use a simple structure, but there are a few compound sentences to mix things up. And the story ends with a what-would-you-do type of question for the reader to discuss with her own family. I hope your reader enjoys it as much as my first grader did.< Less
