The Lawrence Confectionery Company was born on a kitchen table in Grimshaw Street, Preston, in the county of Lancashire. It was a difficult birth, and the smell of burnt sugar lingered for some... His enterprise prospered and he moved to larger premises, employed staff, and in a few years became quite rich enough to buy a Scottish sporting estate called “St Mordan of the Two Rivers”.
