The content of this book, Heroes of Social Justice, was created by the 2015-2016 Fifth Graders of Turquoise Trail Charter School, during a special integrated arts class called Project MINDS... More > (Meaningful INquiry Discovery and Solutions). In this project, students chose a hero to research by reading a picture book biography and using on-line websites. They wrote about the struggles and triumphs of their hero in the first person voice in order to empathize and connect with each remarkable life story. Students then created a portrait of their hero by using props, costumes, and poses during a photo session, and by editing the photos with the on-line program PIXLR. This book captures 71 students' look at 36 heroes who have made a positive difference in our world.< Less
