More > practitioners’ own experiences. This is intended for both academics and practitioners and aims to reframe the way community development is discussed.
This text argues that community well-being, like an individual’s, requires holistic care, and it puts well-being at the forefront of community development concerns. It emphasizes interconnectedness between aspects of community– economy, health, education, worldview, social organizing etc. – that contribute to individual and collective well-being. After laying a conceptual foundation, four interviews discuss first-hand participation in worldview/values-guided projects. These aim to have readers find their own lessons in other Indigenous people’s experiences and alternative and culturally specific ideas to apply to their community work.< Less
