It is known that he was born the son of a merchant, likely illegitimately around Florence Italy. During the 1330,s he met with the Neapolitan Nobility (in Naples), and married the kings daughter. She was referred to in his Romance stories only as Fiametta. In returning to Florence in 1341 a year after the outbreak of the Plague. In and around 1349 he began work on the Decameron, telling the tales of his Early career, and completing the work in 1352. During the 1350s Giovanni became involved with Italian Humanism and Greek Literature, although his literary successes turned out to be more a labor of Love than of financial gain. He died of obesity related illnesses in Certaldo Italy on December 21 1375.< Less
