We saw many attractions of both large cities and small towns, and we enjoyed some truly off-the-beaten-path jewels. Matthew and I first traveled in an overnight sleeper car on the Amtrak Crescent train for 776 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina, to New Orleans, Louisiana. We then rented a car to make our 650-mile journey along the Gulf Coast. We lodged in Orange Beach, Florida, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and New Orleans, Louisiana, but we visited many small towns and attractions along the way and in the surrounding areas.< Less
