More > "New Age Religion" but is rarely encountered today. This part is all about the Sabbat. When was the last time you heard a witch say that they don’t do seasonal celebrations? Not lately I’ll wager! When was the last time you heard a witch say that the so-called "turning of the wheel" is useful for something OTHER than prancing about in a circle worshipping Gods you have never met? Not lately I’ll wager! So what do I think the change of the year IS good for? Find out here where we will cover the Sabbats in depth – including a lengthy excerpt from the authors own Year Diary! This is NOT a book of THEORY and is NOT a book of scholarly history. It IS what I actually have done and found to work. It can work for you too. All you have to do is try. Growing up in South Orange County, you might say I was a bit spoiled. I had the shore to the South of me, Disneyland to the North, and just about every amenity one could ask for in between. But... More > that's where I grew up. In my early 30's I got a teaching job in the High Desert region, about half way from the OC to Las Vegas. Some might call it rural but you won't find any cows here nor farms for that matter. After getting married at age 33 to Sarah, a beautiful person inside and out, I started this thing called "blogging." I wrote about my impressions of life in the style of an "online diary." Some think I went a little overboard. This is a collection of my favorite blog posts in book format. I share my POV on teaching, people in general and finding ways to remain passionate through adversity. It hasn't been easy, I hope I haven't faked anyone out trying to appear that way.< Less

At the Hut of the Small Mind By Sanford Goldstein

Sanford Goldstein’s 'At the Hut of the Small Mind' is a classic of English-language tanka. As much a work of Zen as of tanka, it was written while the author spent several days on a natural... More > farm operated by a Japanese Zen master. While there he met several other seekers, but most of all, he met himself. It may have been a black butterfly winging into his hut to escape the rain, or a white hen who joined the seekers at the master’s feet, but there are messages here. Subliminal messages that require a mind free from the distractions of daily life to open to them and their is-ness. The reader, like the poet, arrives with ambiguities and departs with them, but somewhere in the middle something changes. The satori that eluded the poet at the beginning of the sequence is found in the hairstyles of sumo wrestlers at the end. This is intuitive poetry. Like Zen, it can’t be explained in words. The reader can only follow the poet’s footsteps and draw their own conclusions.—M. Kei, author of January, A Tanka Diary< Less
