A Short History of the 102nd Engineers of the US 27th Infantry Division In World War I By Brendan Coote
eBook (PDF): $0.00
I wrote this little history as a gift to my family and to commemorate my grandfather’s service in the Great War. This is not an extensive academic treatment of the war, its casus belli, nor of... More > the major battles of that conflict or the outcome of the Treaty of Versailles which ended it. I am not a trained historian, just an enthusiast, and in the following I offer an outline of this period and some items of interest. My grandfather’s soldier’s diary was lost among my father’s effects after his death in 2012, so I am unable to provide the personal perspective of Joseph Coote’s time on the Western Front. Despite this, it should be remembered that he was a solider and to an appreciable extent the individual’s experience follows that of his unit. So here I offer a summary and some context of the operations of his organization, the 102nd Engineers of the US Army’s 27th “New York” Division, their training and engagements during the First World War, the Great War, the “War to End All Wars”.< Less
