The problem is that the old traditional bitumen rag felt ages quickly, it becomes brittle, and easily damaged due to weathering. Repairs can always be made to extend the life of the roof for a short while, but in the long run, a complete re-covering is the only real answer. Built-up felt remains by far the most popular form of roofing for domestic extensions, and properly installed, using high performance materials and correct installation, this form of roofing can provide a long term waterproofing solution.< Less
