Also shown is the imperfect beginnings of Church doctrine, especially as they appear in the Logos theory derived from cosmology, were subjected to wholesome corrections — by the Monarchians, by Athanasius, and by the influence of biblical passages, which pointed in another direction. Nor could the Hellenic contrast of “spirit” and “flesh” become completely developed in Christianity, because the belief in the bodily resurrection of Christ, and in the admission of the flesh into heaven, opposed to the principle of dualism a barrier which Paul as yet neither knew nor felt to be necessary. This volume is presented in a Bilingual format (English side-by-side with the original French) with copious footnotes and lots of illustrations. It also includes the 'Preliminary Discourse' to the Second Edition which has only recently been translated into English. Levi states that he has created a "complete course" on the science of the ancient magi, which is made up of 3 parts (in 4 volumes): Dogma and Ritual of High Magic, the History of Magic, and the Key to the Great Mysteries.
