Wired Love: A Romance of Dots and Dashes By Ella Cheever Thayer
eBook (ePub): $3.99
Wired Love: A Romance of Dots and Dashes, by Ella Cheever Thayer, is an enchanting book about a love affair between two telegraphers in America, code names 'N' and 'C'. The couple fall victim to... More > the dangers that internet chat-room users are faced with today: they begin to fall for the stranger on the other end of the line without knowing what they look like, who they are, or anything much about them. For the first few chapters, 'N', known as Nattie, has no idea if the grapher on the end of the line is a man or a woman. She leads a double life - her 'online' life and her humdrum normal life. She has her real, 'visible' friends, and this increasingly special 'invisible' friend. The humour in this novel is touching and farcical at times, and I found this to be one of the most charming aspects of the book. Charming is the perfect word for it as you fall in love with the characters and delight in the myriad of misunderstanding that makes this novel so highly cinematic.< Less

Connecting the Dots: New and Selected Poems By Helen Kanevsky

Helen Kanevsky dismantles the separation between fact and fiction in her new poetry collection that enlightens with imagery but also delves into literal truth. Life, the endless reverse from which... More > Helen Kanevsky draws her bitter-sweet poetic brew, is just too weird to grasp and maybe not worth grasping (“Life violates every code of decency”). It is “Rabbis in kimonos munching on gefilte fish sushi.” It is an entity that, when you think you’ve found the particles from which it is constructed, turned into a wave and scatters – its meaning ever elusive, and fading into old recollections. And yet, there is that reality that must be connected with sobriety. As the poet says, “Memories are useless ballast … until you are brought in for questioning.” Reality in Helen’s poems defies exactitude, best captured not by exciting exposition, but in the Kanevsky-esque disquisition. And, it is FUN! Bruce Neuburger, writer, educator, and peace activist< Less

The liturgies have been written to be read alone or as part of a community.
