Capable of speeds in excess of 1200 miles per hour, the F-101 Voodoo was originally designed as a long-range bomber escort. Shortly after the plane’s debut in 1957, however, Strategic Air... More > Command determined that jet escorts for the B-52 were unnecessary. The F-101 was then reconfigured as an air-defense interceptor, fighter-bomber, and reconnaissance platform. Known by its pilots as the “one oh one wonder” for its performance capabilities, the Voodoo flew with distinction in Vietnam, and performed recon missions over Cuba. Over 880 F-101s were built, flying for the USAF and RCAF as late as 1984. Originally printed by McDonnell and the USAF, this F-101 Voodoo Flight Operating Manual was classified “Restricted”. It is now declassified and is here reprinted in book form. This affordable facsimile has been reformatted and color images appear in black and white. Douglas F4D Skyray Pilot's Flight Operating Instructions By Periscope Film LLC
Paperback: $24.95

The Douglas F4D Skyray was a single-engine, delta- wing fighter aircraft. Equipped with the J40 after-burning turbojet, it was at one time the world’s hottest plane. On October 15, 1953, pilot... More > Bob Rahn set a speed record of 728 mph on a 100 km course — a mark that would not be eclipsed for five years. Troubles with powerplants resulted in delays with the F4D entering service. When it finally came on line in 1956, it was generally met with enthusiasm. It had wonderful rates of roll and climb, the latter being of some import for its planned mission: high-altitude interception. Yet the plane’s short range, awkward handling characteristics, and inherent instability made it somewhat ill-suited for carrier use. Although 420 “Fords” were built by 1958, they were withdrawn in 1964. Originally printed by Douglas and the U.S. Navy, this handbook provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this plane. The manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form.< Less

Northrop’s T-38 Talon was the world’s first supersonic trainer aircraft, and remains in service today in air forces worldwide. It entered service in 1961, and quickly set climb records,... More > earning it the nickname “white rocket”. Nearly 1200 Talons were produced before the last one rolled off the assembly line in 1972. Capable of a speed of Mach 1.3, and a climb rate approaching 34,000 feet per minute, the T-38’s performance was sufficient to warrant service as the USAF Thunderbirds’ aircraft in the mid-1970s. Its primary role however, was as a dedicated training and proficiency platform. More than 50,000 USAF, NASA and NATO pilots have flown the Talon, a record that may never be matched. Originally printed by the U.S. Air Force and Northrop, this handbook for the T-38 provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of this famous aircraft. Originally classified “restricted”, the manual was recently declassified and is here reprinted in book form.< Less

As the Blue Angels’ aircraft in the late 1950s, Grumman’s F11F-1 Tiger came to symbolize the speed and might of U.S. Navy airpower. The Tiger was originally conceived as an upgrade of... More > the F9F Cougar. It eventually morphed into a new design, that incorporated the area rule to enable cruising speeds up to 1.1 Mach. The prototype flew in 1954, and carrier trials commenced in 1956. Eventually seven squadrons flew F11Fs. Hampered by maintenance issues affiliated with the J65 engine, and the fact that the Vought Crusader was clearly superior, the Tiger had a short service life. It was withdrawn from carrier duty after four years, in 1961. Only 199 were built. The remaining Tigers flew in a training capacity, and the Blue Angels continued to fly them for over a decade, 1957-1969. Originally printed by the U.S. Navy, this handbook provides a fascinating glimpse inside the cockpit of the Tiger. Originally classified “restricted”, the manual was declassified and is here reprinted in book form.< Less

Rockwell’s B-1 Lancer serves as the supersonic component of the USAF’s bomber fleet. An outgrowth of the requirement for a heavy bomber to replace the B-52, the Lancer was conceived... More > during the Cold War as a high-speed, radar-penetrating platform. Originally intended to achieve speeds above Mach 2, the operational B-1B normally cruises at Mach .92 and dashes at speeds up to Mach 1.25. The design uses variable-sweep wings to provide high lift during takeoff and landing, and low drag in high-speed flight. Known in the Air Force as the “Bone” (for B-One), the Lancer served from 1986-92 in a strategic bombing role. Reconfigured for conventional support, the B-1 was used in Iraq in 1998, and then in Kosovo, Afghanistan and again Iraq in 2003. It continues to fulfill a vital role. This pilot's flight operating handbook was originally printed during the B-1A test program. Recently declassified, it is presented here in book form.
