More > confront in their attempts to learn a second or foreign language. Assisting learners in tackling the learning of thousands of new words obstacle compels teachers to discover and offer the most effective tasks for vocabulary learning. Most teachers and researchers have been aware of this necessity but most often they have been in a state of indeterminacy as to what practices are the best to help the learners cope with the problem. The present book focuses on the comparison of three different methods of vocabulary instruction in a quasi experimental design and processes the related data through statistical procedures. The findings are discussed with reference to theoretical frameworks which best justify the outcomes.< Less

Study 2 analyses the factors determining the survival and exit of 143 B2B e-marketplaces in German-speaking Europe. Based on the population ecology approach Kathrin Sattler tests her hypotheses with nonparametric techniques, the estimation of a Cox proportional hazards model, and a binary logistic regression model. Study 3 estimates the evolution of the concentration of the German-speaking B2B e-marketplace sector from 1995 to 2010 and tests models of the chance of entry and the hazard of exit of individual marketplace carriers from the market. The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Pavement Services Unit is in the process of implementing a new pavement design procedure being developed under the sponsorship of AASHTO. Fatigue... More > cracking is a key distress mechanism that is predicted as part of the overall process using a theoretical model calibrated to empirical data. Tensile strain at the underside of the hot-mix asphalt pavement layers induced by truck axle loads is, in turn, a key input into the fatigue cracking model. The principal objective of the project was to assess the validity of the predicted tensile strain via layered elastic analysis. This involved collecting data from an existing test site along Interstate 5 just north of Albany, Oregon and installing and collecting data from instruments at a new test site along US 97 in Redmond, Oregon. This report documents the progress made toward achieving the principal objective of the study during the contract period (October 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008).< Less
