More > lands and found himself documenting a significant moment in the history of Ethiopia, the end of an empire. Due to the highly historical nature of his work, a considerable amount of his photographs have been recently donated to the Smithsonian Museum. Dimitri was a collector of memories. He cherished them like “living jewels.” In his accounts, he writes: “I am no story teller with either the pen or the mouth, but I longed for many endless hours […] and attempted to put something in print, like some kind of therapy […] Being my own story teller for my own memories and experiences is all I wanted” (New Flower Stories i).
