On April 13, 1945 he rec'd the Distinguished Flying Cross when he took over for his squadron commander and led the squadron in destroying many planes and material at Eggebek airodrome. The total that day set a record, 92 German planes destroyed on the ground, with many more damaged. It was a record for WW2.
