Air Crash Investigations - Pilot Error? - The Crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight 409 By Hans Griffioen, Editor
eBook (ePub): $9.99
On 25 January 2010, at 00:41:30 UTC, Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 409, a Boeing 737-800, on its way from Beirut to Addis Abeba, crashed just after take-off from Rafic Hariri International Airport in... More > Beirut, Lebanon, into the Mediterranean Sea about 5 NM South West of Beirut International Airport. All 90 persons onboard were killed in the accident. The investigation concluded that the probable causes of the accident were pilot errors due to loss of situational awareness. Ethiopian Airlines refutes this conclusion. Other factors that could have lead to probable causes are the increased workload and stress levels that have most likely led to the captain reaching a situation of loss of situational awareness similar to a subtle in-capacitation and the F/O failure to recognize it or to intervene accordingly.< Less

In this book, Mathematical Modelling of a reference SEDM has been done & Transfer Function has been derived with simulated result. Later Parameter Identification has been carried out to find the... More > suitable design criteria for testing different controllers (P, PI, PD, PID controllers) with the machine. As it turned out to be a stable system (as per Routh–Hurwitz Stability Criterion), different controllers has been used to evaluate the Step response of Open loop & Closed loop system with simulated result. Controller tuning has been done to find the best result for controlling speed of SEDM. Settling time, % Overshoot, Steady-State error & Rise time has been calculated for all the controllers. Later active RC realization of the best fitted controller has been done using Ideal PID Control Algorithm.< Less
AIR CRASH INVESTIGATIONS FAILING BRAKES The Crash of TAM Linhas Aereas Flight JJ3054 By Hans Griffioen, editor

On 17 July 2007, at 17:19 local time, an Airbus A-320, operated as flight JJ3054 by TAM Linhas Aéreas, was on its way from Porto Alegre, Brazil, for a domestic flight to Congonhas Airport in... More > São Paulo city, São Paulo State, Brazil. During the landing, at 18:54 local time, the aircraft veered to the left, overran the left edge of the runway, collided with a building, and with a fuel service station. All persons on board – six crewmembers, and 181 passengers – perished. The crash also caused 12 fatalities on the ground. The runway had recently been resurfaced, but it did not yet have water-channeling grooves cut into it to reduce the danger of hydroplaning, making landing during rain a dangerous endeavour. Flight Data Recorder information showed that immediately prior to touchdown, both thrust levers were in CL (or "climb") position, with engine power being governed by the flight computer's autothrottle system.< Less

On the Meaning of Sin By Christopher Stewart
eBook (ePub): $0.00
Growing up is hard work. As we architect our lives, responding to the requirements of our path is demanding enough as it is without having to address additional annoyances that get in the way of our... More > personal development. Still, what if all those irritations were actually the results of our own errors, and as such as many clues inviting us to reform and to regain the itinerary we have selected for ourselves ? On the Meaning of Sin proposes a different take on the mechanics of sin, coming from the perspective of an unorthodox trajectory in the worlds of arts, science, and Oriental philosophy. In this alternative view, the cosmos provides a course-correction mechanism wherein whenever we miss the mark, we are redirected towards the enjoyment of tranquil progress towards our goals. Any individual can attain liberation, or elimination of error, at any time, and so can society as a whole. Heaven truly exists, and it is constantly beckoning us towards it.< Less

The present tables are in S.I. units. Earlier systems of units have become more or less obsolete at the present time and were therefore not used. These tables are based on IAPWS – IF97... More > formulations that are more accurate then earlier formulations for the properties of steam. Thermodynamic and Transport Properties of compressed liquid, saturated, superheated and supercritical steam are included. These tables are meant for engineers and students of engineering courses - thermodynamics and other courses requiring the properties of steam and water. Large size binding was used so that generous spacing and generous font sizes can be employed. The very small font sizes used in some tables cannot be read clearly by many students. These may lead to errors, particularly during examinations. These tables are an essential resource for engineers and students dealing with steam and water.< Less
