Nature has often faced problems which are similar to those faced every day by engineers. Solutions found by nature have been improved and tested over millions of years so it is not surprising that... More > such solutions work very well. Engineers can therefore get inspired by natural solutions. The first two chapters of the book try to imitate the most powerful processing units found in nature : the neuron. In the third chapter I will try to make an interconnection of artificial neurons to construct an artificial neural network with multiple applications , some of which will be shown in the fourth chapter. The last three chapters are dedicated to the use of neural networks in solving differential equations . In particular, the last chapter focuses on the solution of the Helmholtz equation with neural networks. This equation is typical of a large quantity of physical problems , and it is also used in the study of electromagnetic fields to find the fields’distribution into a metallic wave-guide .< Less
KB Neural Data Mining: with Python sources By Roberto Bello

The aim of this work is to present and describe in detail the algorithms to extract the knowledge hidden inside data using Python language, which allows us to read and easily understand the nature... More > and the characteristics of the rules of the computing utilized, as opposed to what happens in commercial applications, which are available only in the form of running codes, which remain impossible to modify. The algorithms of computing contained within the work, are minutely described, documented and available in the Python source format, and serve to extract the hidden knowledge within the data whether they are textual or numerical kinds. There are also various examples of usage, underlining the characteristics, method of execution and providing comments on the obtained results.< Less
An Investigation into the use of a Neural Tree Classifier for Knowledge Discovery in OLAP databases By David Swinburne
eBook (PDF): $0.00

Modern OLAP platforms are capable of creating databases terabytes in size and present a significant challenge to the analyst with the goal of knowledge discovery. Artificial neural networks... More > represent an aspect of machine learning that offers promise in this area. A neural map can learn to identify patterns in data of high dimensionality and a specific type of neural map, a neural tree classifier, can provide a hierarchical classification of the patterns identified. The investigation begins with a comparison of two neural tree classifiers and continues by illustrating how their application can allow the identification of multi-dimensional areas of analytical interest in an OLAP database. Finally, a novel OLAP exception "explain" technique is outlined, enabled through the use of a neural tree classifier in conjunction with discovery-driven exploration.< Less

RoboSight by RNIS offers an affordable, but powerful vision recognition system, ideal for robotic platforms and small embedded applications. Powered by the CogniMem CM-1K neural network chip... More > developed by General Vision, complex visual objects are readily detected and categorized from patterns previously trained by the user or the embedding system. The recognized visual categories can then be fed to the higher-level functions of the controlling system to guide goal decisions, object localization, platform movement and navigation, and environment manipulation.< Less
39th WEGEMT Summer School on Optimistic - Optimization in Marine Design By WEGEMT - Publisher

The presented material was contributed by scientists from all over Europe with wide experience in both marine design and formal optimization. Apart from writing and presenting some chapters... More > themselves, the book's editors - Lothar Birk and Stefan Harries - acted as organizers and secretaries of the summer school OPTIMISTIC. The 39th WEGEMT summer school called OPTIMISTIC – Optimization in Marine Design was held at the Technical University Berlin in May 2003 under the auspices of the European Association of Universities in Marine Technology and Related Sciences (WEGEMT). Their intention was to introduce engineering professionals, scientists and post-graduate students to the methodology and the application-of formal optimization in the field of marine design.< Less

This book is about predictive modeling. Yet, each chapter could easily be handled by an entire volume of its own. So one might think of this as a survey of predictive models, both statistical and... More > machine learning. We define predictive modeling as a statistical model or machine learning model used to predict future behavior based on past behavior. In order to use this book, the reader should have a basic understanding of statistics (statistical inference, models, tests, etc.)—this is an advanced book. Every chapter culminates in an example using R. R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs on a wide variety of UNIX platforms, Windows and MacOS. The book is organized so that statistical models are presented first (hopefully in a logical order), followed by machine learning models, and then applications: uplift modeling and time series. One could use this as a textbook with problem solving in R (there are no “by-hand” exercises).< Less
Circus of Prodigy By Mark Morris
Paperback: $20.00

When adolescents attending the School for the Masterful Application of Robotic Technology display their talents in the annual Circus of Prodigy, their parents find they are the victims of a massive... More > identity theft, and the brilliant inventor who founded the school is put in jail, while his elaborate plot is set in motion. In the year 2035, students design autonomous robots, programming them to compete underwater, on the ground, and through the air of a massive dome teeming with wildlife. Their state-of-the-art design tools center around Chumi, an artificial intelligence that also serves as administrator of the school. When the founder of the school is discovered to have evolved the students through a virus that connects their minds to the Internet, the children are placed under quarantine, enforced by the government's robotic soldiers. Some of the children plot an escape, forcing the President to choose between the slaughter of innocent children and acceptance of the superhuman, homo conexus.< Less
