More > best. In the tradition of decorative, coffee-table books, this publication of few words gets right to the heart of the art, as it allows images to do most of the talking. Only a brief description of the process and a short passage summing up the philosophy behind the photography come between the book’s images and the reader’s imagination. Fluidism is the art of manipulating real liquid mixtures of water, mineral oil, art acrylics, oil paints, glycerin, and egg whites, in order to discover spontaneous fluid patterns of the greatest visual appeal. Part planning and part improvisation, fluidism art reveals Nature’s most primal creative powers, while putting all of life in a most profound perspective.< Less

Re-Created Paintings in Space By Robert S. Lee et al.

Robert Lee began to reflect upon a revolving two-dimensional mental image. Starting with an imaginary plane, he began to manipulate and rotate it in his mind. He mentally stretched, torqued,... More > expanded, and squeezed the two-dimensional plane until a three-dimensional form developed. Calculus acted as a sort of catalyst in his thought process as he developed a concept for re-created paintings. In fact, integration can be used to find the areas of plane regions with [f(x) – g(x)] dx, and the volumes of solids of revolution and volumes by slicing based on the formula A(x) dx. So he took this notion of revolving two-dimensional planes and he thought of a plan to make tangible images. The result was beautiful holistic paintings in monochromes.< Less

The images in this book were created in the realm of the unseen. These are “photos” from the void that mostly goes unnoticed, the space between computer generated lines. In 1997 while... More > using a tablet and a Macintosh Quadra I waxed about what was happening in this dance of bitmapped lines. When painting with oils and charcoal I am always fascinated by the texture and mini compositions that happen between the strokes of a brush. As the brush rides across the canvas a universe is created in its “wake”. A professor once told me that every inch of a painting has to be alive. If one were to cut a painting into one-inch squares each inch would become a new separate work of art. Light and shadow dancing with thin and thick, layers of color melt over texture of canvas creating mountain ranges of form in the macro world. So what of the cyber world of art? What happens in the cracks of the texture of a raster-based image? Is there a silicone similarity to physical paint and charcoal?< Less
