This book is online for free at http://cnx.org/content/col11380/latest/ . This book is a critique and review of the aspects of Jungian psychology mentioned in the title. What makes the archetypes... More > more significant than just being descriptive, however, is that they are models, there is a deep significance to each archetype. They represent a certain personality, they imply certain traits and characteristics of a person. Jung said that a person in whom intuition was dominant, an "intuitive type", acted not on the basis of rational judgment but on sheer intensity of perception. In the extraverted attitude, this function (intuition) is "wholly directed to external objects". That means that an extrovert aims his ability of insight outward, instead of a type of inner reflection, the extrovert probably thinks more about other people and the significant aspects of them and how these aspects relate to themselves. It is difficult to grasp the nature of how this process works, because it is unconscious.< Less

Psychological type systems such as the Myers-Briggs® are incredibly useful in helping people to improve their self-awareness and awareness of others. However the current models do not explain... More > how well somebody uses their type, why two people of the same type can differ greatly in their effectiveness, or how we can maximise the potential of our type? The ‘Shadows of Type’ model provides the answers to these questions by placing psychological type back into its original Jungian context, ‘upgrading’ this to set it within the psychosynthesis model, and then combining it with ego development theory. This leads to detailed descriptions of the 16 psychological types through seven levels of ego development. Using the suggested coaching techniques and applications, individuals can gain more insight into how they are using their type and the traps that they can fall into, and coaches are enabled to work with psychological type developmentally, transformationally and transpersonally.< Less
