Radical Equality documents the rise and fall of three constitutional principles that upset the feudal alliance of economic monopolists (landowning English nobility), religious authoritarians (the... More > Church of England), and mercenary militarists (redcoat soldiers) ruling the old world. By instituting the one person, one vote principle, the doctrine of separation of church and state, and civilian control of the military, our founding fathers built a government that protected human equality, but this protection was then overthrown by the elevation of corporations to a personhood more powerful than that of human beings, the creation of a privatized industrial arms complex, and the rise of a theocratic agenda within the Religious Right. Radical Equality exposes the inequitable ideologies used to justify the overthrow of our democratic principles: free-market fundamentalism, password Christianity, and benevolent hegemony. In so doing, Radical Equality shows America how it can regain its democratic moral compass.< Less

More > led a group from Middleton to St Peter's Fields, to attend a meeting pressing for parliamentary reform, where they witnessed the Peterloo Massacre. Bamford was arrested and charged with treason. Although the evidence showed that he had not been involved in the violence, he was nevertheless found guilty of inciting a riot and sentenced to a year in Lincoln gaol. The experience of the massacre made a deep impression on Bamford, and convinced him that the state's power would always succeed against radical militancy. He came to be seen as a voice for radical reform, but opposed to any activism that involved physical force. Bamford was the author of poetry (mostly in standard English)but of those in dialect several showing sympathy with the conditions of the working class became widely popular.< Less

Essays in Radical Empiricism By William James
eBook (ePub): $1.99
Essays in Radical Empiricism (ERE) by William James is a collection edited and published posthumously by his colleague and biographer Ralph Barton Perry in 1912. It was assembled from ten out of a... More > collection of twelve reprinted journal articles published from 1904–1905 which James had deposited in August, 1906, at the Harvard University Library and the Harvard Department of Philosophy for supplemental use by his students. Perry replaced two essays from the original list with two others, one of which didn't exist at the earlier time. Because ERE is a collection of essays written over a period of time, and ultimately not selected or collated by their author, it is not a systematic exposition of his thought[1] even though Perry suggests otherwise in his preface. This circumstance, in addition to the evolution of James own philosophic stance, has contributed to a wide variance in understanding, misunderstanding, and critical opinion of radical empiricism.< Less
