A missile flight simulation is a computational tool that calculates the flight of a missile from launch until it engages the target. The simulation is based on mathematical models of the missile,... More > target and environment. This book provides instruction for the preparation of these mathematical models to simulate the flight of a surface-to-air missile. The 2nd Edition of Missile Flight Simulation provides updated simulation processes using MATLAB® and Simulink™, while improving and clarifying previous content. The book may be used as a reference or as a textbook, although it is devoid of exercises. However, the reader is encouraged to perform the simulation of Charter 12 using MATLAB® and Simulink™, or a programming language such as FORTRAN (see Chapter 10). The book is not intended to be a missile flight engineering reference and does not contain every aspect of missile flight. It provides the appropriate content for simulating missile flight from launch to terminus only.< Less
The Simbol-X Cd(Zn)Te detector By Bob Dirks

The astrophysics community needs an instrument to gain more insight in the origin of the cosmic X-ray background in the energy range between 0.5 to 80 keV. Existing instruments like Chandra and... More > XMM-Newton show good results up to 10 keV but lack sensitivity above. In order to keep or improve the same performances up to 80 keV, grazing incidence mirrors with a focal length of at least 20 m should be used. Since satellites this big cannot be launched with existing launchers, the mirror and detector must be placed on two different satellites flying in formation. The Simbol-X space mission will be the first project of this type. A crucial element is the High Energy Detector, a hybridisation of the IDeF-X read-out electronics and Cd(Zn)Te semiconductor crystals, operating in the energy range from 5 to 80 keV. This work presents the results of characterisation measurements of electronics and crystals, related to pixel leakage currents, spectroscopy and the development of a complete detector simulation program.< Less

This book provides a description of digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms along with a coverage of compelling modern applications including cellular telephones and MP3 players. Topics covered... More > include filter design, FFT, random signals, adaptive filters, and speech/audio processing. The mathematical underpinnings of DSP are accompanied by qualitative descriptions, solved problems, interactive computer simulations, and Java graphics. The presentation of signal processing concepts is enhanced with object-oriented programming examples supported by the universally accessible Java-DSP (J-DSP) and its mobile versions. The second edition has several new topics including 2-d image filtering, recent speech and audio processing algorithms, and new applications. This new edition has a support web site with code and video clips for J-DSP, iOS, Android and MATLAB. More than 100 new exercises added. The book can be used in an undergraduate or graduate DSP course. ISBN 978-1-4675-9892-7< Less
