Therefore, this isn’t a broad coverage of many mills, but one mill with a lot of legal paperwork. It should also be pointed out that there were no road petitions, but there was a box of overseer appointments (Order – 068.925.4) dating from 1875 to 1895. They are NOT included in this book. (Note: the bridge and mill records are contained in the miscellaneous county records)< Less

The Battle of Pyle’s Defeat was the bloodiest ten minutes of all Alamance County history. On February 24, 1781, a few hundred yards of Alamance County (then Orange County) were stained red with... More > the blood of a few hundred local citizens. Nearly 100 Tory soldiers were killed, with another 100 taken prisoner, wounded, or unaccounted. For generations historians have pondered what really happened at this killing field without any real depth of rationality. Some have just simply replaced fact with convenient speculation of where the hacking actually took place. Our answer to these contemporaries, and their agendas, is the comprehensive presentation in this work, of the letters, memoirs, and field notes of the men who participated. Besides the insight gained from these writings, we provide the reader the proper locations and mileage by plotting the actual routes. It was not our wish when we started this project to revise history, but to correct the myths that have been perpetuated since 1849.< Less

This series is a collected collaboration between graphic designers, writers and artists from around the... More > world. Through this series GraphicHug hopes to share our thoughts, reactions, and feelings to changing topics of relevant interest. To kick it off GraphicHug chose to explore the theme of adaptation. We felt it both timely and multifarious enough to engage a wide range of responses. How does one respond and react to a year that never ceases to change? Never ceases to shift? A year that perhaps more so than others, is in such a dramatic state of flux. The answers we received to these questions delighted and impressed us, (the editors). The sheer range and ecelecticism collected in these pages, we hope, communicates a critical and dynamic riposte to the theme. We hope you feel the same. Enjoy. We love to hug. We love graphic design.
