A quantitative three-part survey-questionnaire was conducted online to explore how music educators in West Michigan use technology in addressing the standards. Respondents (N=113) represented a wide... More > variety of demographic categories. Survey results were subjected to descriptive analysis and chi-square tests for independence. Results indicated that males, instrumental music teachers, and teachers with 6-12 years of teaching experience tend to use technology more frequently than those in other categories. Open-ended responses revealed that many teachers feel overwhelmed by technology and do not have sufficient administrative support. Further study is necessary with regard to the categories with the weakest scores on technology use (females, general music teachers, novice and veteran teachers). Recommendations include five areas of professional development: (1) advocacy; (2) fundraising; (3) basic technology skills; (4) notation software; and (5) sequencing software.< Less
