The Scholar Ship is a fascinating concept in higher education. It's literally a floating university that operates out of a vintage, two hundred meter luxury liner, the MV Oceanic II. Thus, in... More > addition to offering a highly-innovative academic experience, The Scholarship offered my entire family the international travel adventure of a lifetime. If you enjoy reading these "dispatches from the edge" half as much as we enjoyed living the experiences, then you are surely in for a fun ride. Bon voyage! ISBN: 978-0-557-05227-1< Less

The Scholar Ship is a fascinating concept in higher education. Sadly, in the months following our Spring 2008 journey, The Scholar Ship ceased operations. Thus, as of this writing, The Scholar Ship... More > is no more. A more complete and exhilarating educational vessel has never put to sea, but, alas, operating a university on the high seas is financially riskier than asking a pirate to safeguard your piggy bank. Though The Scholar Ship may be gone, it will never be forgotten. In my opinion, global educational initiatives, such as The Scholar Ship, represent the future of international education. Thus, I feel safe in believing that The Scholar Ship is not really “gone,” it is simply experiencing a brief hiatus. Perhaps I’m wearing rose-colored glasses, but I look forward (a few years down the road) to the re-launching of The Scholarship: bigger, better, and more fun than ever.< Less

The Scholar Ship is a fascinating new concept in higher education. It's literally a floating university that operates out of a vintage, two hundred meter luxury liner, the MV Oceanic II. In this... More > book, I have assembled a series of email dispatches that I sent to friends as my family and I pursued our round-the-world itinerary. In many ways the messages are impressionistic and fragmentary. Yet, in spite of all its flaws, email happens to be an outstanding medium for capturing events and ideas in "real time." Although I could have edited the following messages extensively, in their present rough-hewn form, I think the dispatches preserve the overall flavor of the Spring 2008 TSS journey better than extensively-edited versions might. If you enjoy reading these "dispatches from the edge" half as much as we enjoyed living the experiences, then you are surely in for a fun ride. ISBN 978-0-557-05179-3< Less

Was George W. Bush really the “worst president ever”? Immediately following his departure from office, historians ranked Dubya as the 36th best (or seventh from the worst) president in US...
