A Wrinkle in Rhyme and Other Verse By L. J. Lynn

A Wrinkle in Rhyme is a an adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s young adult novel A Wrinkle in Time, a story which so affected me that I felt compelled to respond to it in the most effective... More > and complimentary way to show how it has become a part of the very fabric of my own life. The characters Charles Wallace and his sister, Meg, are truly heroic in their devotion to their mother and in the improbable rescue of their father. Reading the novel was an unforgettable experience; writing the poem is my expression of gratitude. The Odes are meant to entertain and to enjoy. They do not pretend to tell what a Grecian Earns or bestow aethereal laurels to unworthy subjects. They simply take random subjects and give them meaning beyond their otherwise insignificant existence. The war poetry conveys the horrors of battle when it results in the senseless destruction of life. This last section is a work in progress epitomized by the classic portrayal of the death of Patroclus.< Less

The bulk of these poems were written by Densmore between the years 1998 and 2003. Similar in scope to the poems of Carl Sandburg and Robert Frost with the imagistic power of Wallace Stevens, his... More > poetry comes from a quiet and thoughtful observation of life, nature, and the people who inhabit both. The poems throughout are gentle and warm but never without purpose and drive. In their unfolding is revealed a comforting philosophy of time, memory, and the events of which both are composed. In an early review of the original print run Tom Slayton -- then editor of Vermont Life Magazine -- said "... Victor Densmore's poetry ... is finely wrought and sweet and reminds me a bit of the poetry of the late William Mundell who also celebrated the passing life of the farm." His second book, 'Dust of the Road' will be published at the end of January, 2016.< Less

More > (/ˈdɑːrwɪn/; 12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist and geologist, best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory. [I] He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and in a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved in selective breeding.Darwin published his theory of evolution with compelling evidence in his 1859 book On the Origin of Species, overcoming scientific rejection of earlier concepts of transmutation of species. "Aaron Berger is the superman of a sober sidekick to all the drunk nights of poetry in this jagged brick slick city. So when the night is winding down and the hangovers are beginning too early,... More > Aaron is still stoking the poetic atmosphere with fiery recitations from recently acquired chapbooks, burning up the room with his necessary role as the proletariat poet.
