A woodcut is made by carving an image in relief on a block of wood, applying ink and pressing paper onto the carved block. The result is a mirror image of the carved block. A puzzle print is made by cutting the wood block into pieces, then carving each piece independently. The puzzle is assembled at the press. In this project, each puzzle piece was carved by a different artist. CONTENTS: print information, reproductions of the 9-foot, 5-panel print, key to all the participants, participant individual submissions (aka "city blocks") with information about the image submitted by each, and brief overview of the process.
