The people of Ordsall in inner city Salford paid out of their own money to commemorate their relatives and neighbours who suffered and fell in The Great War, 1914-18. But this monument was moved in... More > 1988 when the area around Regent Park was being partly demolished and regenerated. A generation later, the new residents got together and arranged to put the Memorial stone back in its original place, proudly in the middle of Regent Park, in time for a ceremony for Armistice Day in November 2015. Meanwhile members of Ordsall Trust were grateful to have received a grant from the Heritage Lottery to research the names on Ordsall War Memorial and look into whether there were any surviving relatives still living locally. This quest took them further afield, across the whole of Salford and beyond, but people were discovered who had stories to tell and memories to share. A film was made and a book prepared.
