More > during the end of 18th-century, lasting until the beginning of the 20th-century. Although the melodic shape of Imaginary Lands is closely inspired in that of the Brazilian modinha, its harmony brings a more dissonant and aggressive type of chords, based on modern popular Brazilian music, mostly the Bossa Nova - a genre perpetuated by composers like Tom Jobin and João Gilberto. Imaginary Lands'lyrics were originally written by the composer, and portray a feminine character in deep emotional conflict who prefers to invent an imaginary controlled reality in which ideal love and safe happiness could be achieved. That intent seems to fail, once it is clear that the emotions and images of her unhappy romantic past experiences come to surface, even when she tries to get absorbed into her programmed delusion.< Less
