About the Art
"The characters in 'Skin & Bones' started their life as white scratches on a black... More > board. At first their lives seemed bleak and colorless, but then I introduced them to a few pens I know. Freed from the page by a pair of scissors, they all took flight for a new world via a high-resolution scanner where they plied their skills on the stage in some really wonderful digital animation software. Their thespian ranks were joined by some vector-based objects and characters and arranged into scenes. From there the characters seemed to come alive, with a little nudging and prodding of course, and I was able to get some great snapshots of them in action."

Song Cycle: In the summer of 1820 a fourteen-year-old boy named Joseph Smith Jr. walked into a grove of trees in upstate New York to pray. Prompted by a verse from James that stated "If any of... More > you lack wisdom, let him ask of God...", Joseph intended to ask which church he should join himself with. When he knelt to pray, he felt as though he was being assailed by an unseen power that wished to destroy him, yet no sooner did he lift up his voice to God than he felt himself delivered and saw a glorious light descend around him. "A Light that Shames the Noonday Sun" is based upon this visionary experience of Joseph Smith Jr.,and was written in celebration of Smith's 200th birthday. More > George MacDonald his mentor and spiritual guide. MacDonald himself was an Anglican minister for a time, but was forced to give up the ministry because of his radical beliefs. He is best known for his fairy tales, but also wrote many sermons, books and some poetry. "The Diary of an Old Soul," MacDonald's largest poetic work, consists of 365 four-line stanzas, one for each day of the year. These poems deal mainly with MacDonald's strife in reconciling himself to God. Out of these pleadings I have selected a number of stanzas that speak to me.
