In 2013, new members of the Wallingford Rod and Gun Club watched plans unfold for a new trap cabin. Having endured hot and bone-chilling days and nights at the trap range, the idea appealed. Not... More > having construction experience, I thought the most I could do was document the effort. Armed with a camera, Greg and I jumped into the fray. But it wasn’t enough to take pictures; oh, no! Joined at the hip for the most part, we watched and helped as much as we were able while the new trap cabin was erected. We didn’t expect to learn construction the year we retired, but oh well. My father thought that Augustine Shelburne III was our family’s connection to DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution). It ended up being the Hostetlers that provided that connection. The... More > Stodghill connection to both the Shelburnes and the Hostetlers were the result of hardworking, God-fearing Stodghill men marrying well! I hope by leaving this account, someone else might eventually piece together more answers to questions about the Stodghill family.< Less

The New Haven Yacht Club was established in a Chapel Street bank building at the Northwest corner of State Street in 1881, making it one of the oldest chartered yacht clubs in the country. The first... More > clubhouse was originally located at the end of a 1,100 foot pier off Water Street (near the foot of Franklin Street) in New Haven. At the turn of the century the building was moved a short distance eastward to the rear of the Sargent Company pier. During its heyday the NHYC was host to many nationally renowned yachting squadrons including the New York Yacht Club during its annual tri-cornered regatta on Long Island Sound. The club moved to Morris Cove in 1903, where it occupied several locations until 1943, when, some say because of damage from the 1938 hurricane and the intervening war years, along with the passing of its generous founders, it closed. The revival of the present Club developed one Sunday afternoon in February 1967 in Morris Cove, where it has continued to operate until the present day< Less
