The State Archives houses all county court documents, as given by the courts. However, some documents did not originate from the courthouse. For whatever reason, some “official”... More > documentation found its way into private hands or former (retired) county agents. When these documents surfaced, and are given to the Archives – they are NOT integrated into the existing county collection. They are segregated into a CRX catalog (at the back of each county index file-drawer). Therefore, I went through every county, looking for Road, Bridge, Mill, Ordinary, and Ferry records. Simply put, there are two types of collections, folders and boxes. Folders being a small collection, and boxes, literally the same size as a normal county collection. Only three counties had large (boxes) collections, Macon Co. (2-boxes), Rowan Co. (one box), and Beaufort (one box and one folder). All the remaining counties were small folder-size collections. Therefore they do not warrant a standalone volume, and are included in this book.< Less
