Yes, it’s that time of year when I have to apologise for mentioning a certain major event in May, for fear of upsetting the millions of readers who, through no fault of their own, happen to... More > live hundreds or even thousands of miles away from where it is all happening and are thus, because of a quirk of geography, unable to attend. The one good thing about living in the UK is that, while we have as much chance of winning Eurovision as we have of ever winning the World Cup again, we have a stonking alternative in the form of the UK Slot Car Festival. We’ll be there, welcoming with open arms the people who have nice things to say, while at the same time attributing any adverse comments to the fact that they’ve got us confused with another magazine. Plus... It's a cracker!< Less
Slot Car Magazine – March 2018 By Marc Abbott & Ric Woods

I can’t really think of anything to have a moan about this time; that’s a bit annoying in itself, of course, because part of the fun (so-called) of growing old is the fact that you get to... More > constantly complain about stuff. Anyway, I thought I’d indulge in a spot of boasting instead. In the one hundred or so years it seems like we have being doing this, I don’t think we have ever quite managed this range of subjects. We have three scales (or more accurately four – you’ll see what I mean), scenery, history, a home layout, a new track system, a car build, new cars AND digital! Not forgetting a fab competition that apparently your pet goldfish can enter and the conclusion of the Dilworth murder mystery that we annoyingly interrupted for the January Christmas special! If that lot doesn’t help you recover from the loss of grid girls in Formula One, nothing will. Many years ago, Julie Andrews advised us to ‘start at the very beginning, a very good place to start’. I’ll shut up now and let you do just that.< Less

SlotCarMAG is magazine has been selling all over the world, which means we could feature a much broader spectrum of subjects and skills than we had first envisaged. That the magazine is still around... More > after four years is as much a testament to our contributors as it is to anything Marc Abbott and Ric Woods have done. For this book, we each made a list of our favourite features from past issues. Where our choices coincided, an article was immediately ‘in’. The remainder were decided on after a frank exchange of views and only as a last resort did we ever engage in arm-wrestling. If you are a regular reader, I hope we have included some of your favourites too. If you are new to the magazine, I hope this will whet your appetite for what we do.< Less

Firstly, all the very best to you all for 2018. It certainly promises to be a year, but whether it will be a good one or a bad one we’ll just have to wait and see. It seems that slot car racing... More > is still finding its level, following the boom years of fifteen years ago or so. On one hand, Hornby’s Scalextric range for 2018 is very ‘safe’ and somewhat uninspiring, indicative of a company that is concerned more with survival than forging bravely towards exciting new horizons. On the other, Policar is launching a new track system! This might just be a very clever move indeed, pre-empting a situation where two of the three major track manufacturers are looking to reduce their commitment to the hobby, which could easily in turn lead to a shortage of new track. It is very heartening to see such a bold move and we wish Policar all the very best.< Less
