Evangeline and The Discarnates aren't always ready for the road but the road is even less prepared for this feral band of subcultural hybrids. Hop on their crazy caravan and experience the fantastic, magical and dysfunctional intrigues of players so strange, seductive and hilarious that you'll almost wish they'd crash on YOUR living room floor. Follow them through scandals, fits of passion, contract offers, death, infidelity, bipolar disorder, kidney donation and the sex industry. If you're just the right kind of "awake and aware", these talented misfits might snatch you up, hustle you into a smelly van and shuttle you off to freedom. Pre-apocalyptic survivalism has never sounded so delirious: this is no ordinary goth band and theirs is like no tour on earth.

The language of Evangeline tastes like a wine-flavored swirl of cotton candy. That is to say, it is delicous and intoxicating (no pun intended, but there it is!). To my sensibilites, Ms. Toxicat has created her own flavor of literary language: a psychedelic air infused with a dark miasma, blood, and bent, rusty nails caught in the tornado of her characters' lives. Her imagistic projectiles love tearing holes in the membrane between our normal reality and the decidedly not-normal world of The Drama Wheel, making it pleasantly easy to lose oneself in the parallel reality of the novel. This book is a lot of fun to read, and I love the way the narrative shifts from the band's immediate lives to their individual pasts, slipping into the lives of their parents and former lovers along the way, and then back to the surface for enough time to get a lungful of air before descending again into the multiple rabbit holes. I find that I never re-emerge in the same place twice--it kept me on my toes... More > throughout!< Less

Serena has a jewel with her piece of literature here. She crafts words like clay. That's how I felt about James Joyce. A combination of ritual poetry, musical and rhythmic in flavor, with a hint of Alice Walker - the honesty and integrity of an empowered female looking at a harsh world.

A documentary like word scape that ebbs and draws you in like a rising tide. The characters have voices, souls and take you along on an adventure quite unexpected. I've taken the ebook version with me on long trips and every time I read it I discover a new angle with imagery and wordplay that I missed the first time around. The book is brash, unabashedly naked in its study of the human condition. You feel like a deep guarded secret is being revealed and are linguistically inclined to cherish it. Faith and the very intimate and real subject of personal ideals of divinity are touched on especially in Breeders: EP Side A. Writing without boundaries or rules, just raw melodic literary harmonies- thumb out for a hitch hike on this ride.

"Evangeline and The Dharma Wheel" is another wonderful literary offering by Serena Toxicat. Within the pages of this book the reader will encounter a world of edgy and charismatic beauty. The authors outlook on life is beautiful, deeply felt and unique. Worth reading and re-reading, as new treasures reveal themselves within the pages with each new read. Highly recommended.
