Now, more than ever, we need to shake things up.
Now, more than ever, we need a different way of
thinking, a useful way to focus and the energy to turn the game around. I hope this book will get you started on that path. It took months, but I think you’ll find it worth the effort.
Here are more than seventy big thinkers, each
sharing an idea for you to think about as we head
into the new year.
From bestselling author Elizabeth Gilbert to brilliant tech thinker Kevin Kelly, from publisher Tim O’Reilly to radio host Dave Ramsey, there are some important people riffing about important ideas inside.
This book also includes Tom Peters, Fred Wilson,
Jackie Huba and Jason Fried, along with Gina Trapani, Bill Taylor and Alan Webber.
Here’s to a year with ideas even bigger than these.
Reading this book stretched out my desire to expand beyond myself, and see myself as a significant contributor to the world around me. It paves the way for me to see what is needed to create positive change, through the eyes of the leaders who are doing the paving, and I love that it so simple to digest.
While reading the book, it didn't take long for me to exclaim out loud, "Good point!" or "Oooh, that's a good idea!" or "I never though about it that way before." It's as if a hand reached out from within the pages and gave me a good smack across the face. Empowerment came to me in over 70 voices from various walks of life. Some with an uplifting message and others with a valuable lesson to teach. This is a handy pocket guide to take with me on trips. It will help me stay focused and inspire me to greater achievements.
Put me in mind of Strunk and White's "Elements of Style" in that it is a compendium of concise essays that point the reader to making a difference. In this case, it's not making a difference in the reader's writing, it's making a difference in the world. This book is elemental, in that it supplies digestible chunks of wisdom: not head-in-the-clouds puffery, but practical, personal and persuasive steps to take to adjust behavior, attitudes and alignments to see ways to make change. Good stuff. Read it, act upon it, and share it with your buddies (and your enemies too).
Seth Godin organized this collection of ideas about what matters now (today) more than ever. He asked his prized network of colleagues, each of them leaders, influencers, artists to contribute a theme based on one word. The collection is awesome and there is insight in each piece contributed that you can benefit from...today! In Seth's note on 'Generosity' he notes that "This year, you’ll certainly find that the more you give the more you get." The idea to put this ebook up on Lulu is in exactly that same vein, as is your decision to buy it (all proceeds will go to "Room to Read")!
Great way to start 2010! This little book is a brilliant compilation of thought-provoking concepts, and it really delivers its promise: "things to think about and do this year". And all the proceedings go to charity, which makes it even better.
