Jan 7, 2010Reading this book stretched out my desire to expand beyond myself, and see myself as a significant contributor to the world around me. It paves the way for me to see what is needed to create positive change, through the eyes of the leaders who are doing the paving, and I love that it so simple to digest.
Jan 7, 2010While reading the book, it didn't take long for me to exclaim out loud, "Good point!" or "Oooh, that's a good idea!" or "I never though about it that way before." It's as if a hand reached out from within the pages and gave me a good smack across the face. Empowerment came to me in over 70 voices from various walks of life. Some with an uplifting message and others with a valuable lesson to teach. This is a handy pocket guide to take with me on trips. It will help me stay focused and inspire me to greater achievements.
Jan 6, 2010Put me in mind of Strunk and White's "Elements of Style" in that it is a compendium of concise essays that point the reader to making a difference. In this case, it's not making a difference in the reader's writing, it's making a difference in the world. This book is elemental, in that it supplies digestible chunks of wisdom: not head-in-the-clouds puffery, but practical, personal and persuasive steps to take to adjust behavior, attitudes and alignments to see ways to make change. Good stuff. Read it, act upon it, and share it with your buddies (and your enemies too).
Jan 6, 2010Seth Godin organized this collection of ideas about what matters now (today) more than ever. He asked his prized network of colleagues, each of them leaders, influencers, artists to contribute a theme based on one word. The collection is awesome and there is insight in each piece contributed that you can benefit from...today! In Seth's note on 'Generosity' he notes that "This year, you’ll certainly find that the more you give the more you get." The idea to put this ebook up on Lulu is in exactly that same vein, as is your decision to buy it (all proceeds will go to "Room to Read")!
Jan 6, 2010Great way to start 2010! This little book is a brilliant compilation of thought-provoking concepts, and it really delivers its promise: "things to think about and do this year". And all the proceedings go to charity, which makes it even better.
Dec 31, 2009No matter how different we may think we are, when it is all said and done, we have so much more in common than not. One of those fundamental commonalities is the search to find our place in this world, to find a meaning for our lives. This book won't give you the meaning of life. It will remind you that we are all searching for it thanks to short essays by some of the most talented, respected, and successful seekers alive today. Not only is it filled with words to inspire and uplift, it reminds us that we are all interconnected. The experiences, struggles, hopes, and inspirations of these well-known individuals are no different than those of you and me, the average person. This is perhaps the greatest lesson in the book. I have already found myself quoting some of these verses and passing along nuggets for others to contemplate. And there are so many nuggets. You won't regret the pocket change it will cost you to buy this book. Read it. Let it soak in. Ruminate. Share. I known that a...
