There’s something to be said about the resilience that resides inside hearts and minds of every black person in America. Our ancestors may have been ripped from their homes, families, lives, and the warm embrace of their culture; but they planted seeds in barren souls nevertheless. Seeds rich in strength, prowess, and determination to thrive in a world that would rather see us go extinct. Our ancestors didn’t know what kind of life their offspring might’ve had, especially since it wasn’t one that they might have imagined for their children. But still, they planted that seed in their children’s souls. That seed however, as good as it is to hope for a better tomorrow, is entangled with a pain fueled rage. Roughly four-hundred years worth of rage and pain marinates within every black person’s soul.
