The Disneylands That Never Were
eBook (PDF), 247 Pages
In 1955 Walt Disney presented the world’s first theme park. Disneyland opened with just 18 rides and attractions. Today there are eleven Disney parks around the globe. Visitors can spend weeks at a time in these resorts, often staying in one of Disney’s own hotel rooms. But in the last fifty years the Disney Imagineers have designed thousands of rides, attractions, hotels, and even entire theme parks that have never been built. Many of these concepts have remained hidden in the company’s private archive for decades… until now. The Disneylands That Never Were documents the biggest, best and most outrageous of these abandoned plans. It details everything from Walt Disney’s initial ideas for Mickey Mouse Park to his planned ski resort in California. From small developments like The Disney Hotel in New York’s Times Square to the huge Port Disney concept, over five decades of dreams are brought to life in The Disneylands That Never Were.

Jun 23, 2009"The Disneylands That Never Were" I just sent the following Email to Shaun and thought my sentiments could help others to appreciate his efforts. Shaun, > To paraphrase a line from a famous roman, "I came, I saw, I bought". > As you can guess, I bought the print version of your book, figuring if > nothing else, it would be an interesting addition to my collection of things > Disney. > I just finished reading it and I was really thrilled with its content. > I'm sure you know that most books of this type simply rehash the same > stories over and over with nothing new to add. This was just the opposite. > While I had heard bits and pieces of some of the stories, you filled in all > the details for me. On top of that, many of the stories I read were > completely new to me. Hope you've got ideas for more books in the future. > Keep on doing what you're doing because you're doing it very well! > Warm Regards > and thanks for... More > telling me about the book, > > Jon > > P.S.: By the way, Your book is the only thing in my Disney collection with > the word Disneyland on it. Everything else is either > WDW or related to Walt's biography.< Less
Jan 27, 2009"The Magic Of Believing." We stood at the gates to the Magic Kingdom WDW with our chin's on the ground, our first experience of Disney magic outside of books or movies had a profound effect on my family and I. As the years have passed and our love affair with all things Disney has grown, the questions and curiosity about the 'unseen' depths of the imagineers cupboard, etc. has increased. Many a time have we said things like, "They should build" or "I wonder if"? Those questions amongst many others have been answered, curiosities and rumours have been met with fact, The Disneylands That Never Were has it all and more. An obviously well researched and planned book, written by a man who's passion for Disney shines through with every fascinating page. Interesting and informative, factual but fun, Shaun takes you on a journey through the vast land of ideas and plan's, past, present and future. More to come? We hope so! Never underestimate the magic of... More > believing.< Less
Mar 10, 2008"The Disneylands That Never Were : Review" From start to finish an excellent Read. Their are lots of facts about the various Disney parks (as well as Walt himself) that I never knew and found very interesting. It is nice to know that Disney are always trying to go bigger and better and it's a real shame about some of the idea's that didn't make the cut as I would have really liked to have seen them built. This book highlights the various problems that Walt Disney and his team have had during the design and building of all of their parks and bring to light the numerous ideas that have never been given the go ahead for one reason or another. Shame their were no pictures to go with the text, but as the author says in the book a lot of these designs may not be currently being used at the moment but potentially could be used in the future so can understand why they were not included. Brought back lots of good memories from my last visit to the Florida park and made we want to go... More > again!< Less
