Justice Not Roses: 20 for 20 contains biographical sketches, illustrations, and poems about twenty women honored in 2020, the year of the 19th Amendment Centennial. Those opposed to the 19th amendment often used the symbol of the rose in their campaign, which prompted some suffragists to counter that symbol with the motto: Justice Not Roses.
Each year, the Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry (ROMP) transforms with a different exhibit that runs throughout the year. In 2020, the 19th Amendment is ROMP’s exhibit theme. The artwork for the exhibit was designed, created, and installed by Bryan Nicholaus Grey.
Perkins, ROMP executive director, composed the poems and biographies, and artist Alysha Little created the book illustrations. This book is meant as a companion piece to the exhibit but also stands alone as a celebration of strong women of all backgrounds from the 19th and 20th centuries who made change happen.
