_Toccatas in the Key of D_ is a crazy* quilt of sonic and semantic textures. Each phrase is at once musical and filled with meaning. Sensual, wry, and wholly in the present, this masterful sequence of 72 poems makes my heart and my mind RACE! Buy this book. It's the real deal. It just might change how you hear and/or think. * & by "crazy" I mean insanely beautiful.

One of Murphy's best! Which is saying a lot, as she has written so much excellent poetry over the past 3 decades; truly she is one of the best innovative poets writing today. This book, tightly edited, is a tour-de-force of the best tendencies in her work: playful and personal, lyrical, highly experimental, and unusually accessible for work as non-traditional as hers. If you buy but one book by sheila e. Murphy, this would be an excellent choice! - John M. Bennett
