What would life be like for a boy inside a canine body? This is one dog of a story.
Ben is a smart wimp whose only excitement in life is getting beaten up by the local bully. Then his world is turned upside down when he's knocked out by a freak lightning strike. When he wakes up, he's not who he used to be . . . or rather, he's not WHAT he used to be! And so his tale of survival in the Australian bush begins . . .
Road-tested on adults and children of various ages, this novel has earned a big thumbs up. The kids loved it, and their parents enjoyed it even more. A nice book for all ages.

What a great little book! This is a really neat plot that combines fantasy with fact. Whiting has put a lot of thought into just what it would be like to be a dog with a human brain. While it's probably meant as a kids book, I think it's a bit like the Harry Potter stories - plenty of grown-ups on the train with their noses buried in what started out as teen level novels. In this book, there's romance as well, both at adult level (but no sex!) and at the kids level too (well good friends really!). And there's a good moral basis, sending strong messages of the right kind to the youngsters who read it. It deals with bullying, initiative, animal cruelty just to mention a few. From a story point of view, I couldn't put it down. I kind of guessed how it might finish, but not how it would get there. And it's cleverly set up for a sequel - I'll be looking out for it . . .
