CHAOS! DEATH! DODOS! Life in small town England was supposed to be easy. You grew up, got the grades, went to university, got a career, fell in love. This is what you were told, all along the way. So why did it all go so wrong? What happened to land you here, in the city, in a job you hate, with no girlfriend and no real life? Does there seem to be no way out of the hole you're in? Are you completely unable to adapt to modern life? Are you hurtling towards extinction? Do you actually care? Are you, in short, a human Dodo?

"Apathy And The Dodo" This is an intelligent novel that's intricately put together like a swiss watch, at first I was unsure where the drive was taking me but once I'd gone cross-eyed the picture became clearer. Every reader will be able to relate to some of the stories of the people met along the way and see ubiquitously familiar characters in others. This book could have been about me, my friends, my town, and a lot of my thoughts, I'm envious that Simon Maslin got there first and I'm sure you'll feel the same way. A MUST read.
"Apathy and the Dodo" I really enjoyed this one. The stories scattered throughout the book suggest that the writer has drawn on the people and places that he knows, and this makes the story far more believable. Though the story seems to focus on the unpredictability of everything, the ending is not entirely bleak - there is hope after all!
