The 6os and 70s were such eventful years from civil rights movements to Vietnam war, that changed the history of this country and the lives of so many. A blend of the past and the present, a fusion of two ways of life in two different countries, a melting pot, where generations and attitudes do not always melt. Sivadasan Channar's twenty two (auto biographical) sketches read like fiction, more factual than fanciful. Some of them focus on the author's Indian past while the others throw light on his US-present. The author links the US sketches together; they portray his relationships to his children and grandchildren as well as his official duties and commitments. The author subtly touches upon the racial problems that exist in the US and on the alienation of the aged in a mechanized society. Extremely reader-friendly, these slices from life are blessed with clarity and precision.
