Night eating can be a contributing factor to weight problems now or later. It is characterized by insomnia, loss of appetite in the morning, and overeating at night. Stress is also associated with night eating. Night eating is done by both normal weight and overweight people. It has been observed in children as early as 5 years old with highest rates in young and middle age adults. Night eating is prevalent in both the suburb communities and in the homeless.
