A great book covering what is at first glance a relatively obscure piece of urban/philanthropic post WW1 social history. Brian Relf has managed to relate great detail in an easy style that draws the reader inexorably into the personalities and sometimes less than straightforward antics that have combined to ensure that one small housing experiment has survived to the present day. Very well done.

A turbulent account of a quaint way of retirement life that should as its Patron intended , be set within an acre of tranquillity . A fascinating factual read I am sure with more to follow.
