Born as Paolo Francesco Danei, in Ovada, Piedmont, St. Paul of the Cross was a great mystic, an incredible preacher, and the founder of the Congregation of the Passion of Jesus Christ, a religious order commonly known as The Passionists. His order has produced very many saints and blesseds and played a role in countless conversions. St. Paul of the Cross was beatified on May 1st, 1863 and canonized on June 28th, 1867 by Pope Pius IX.
